Cardiothoracic Surgery Services

Our experienced and highly trained surgeons have performed thousands of heart and thoracic operations, including the most complex procedures.

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), commonly called heart bypass surgery, is performed to improve blood flow to the heart. In this procedure, your surgeon will use one or more blood vessels from another part of the body. These arteries are then connected to the heart blood vessels to bypass the narrowed or blocked artery, creating a clear channel for blood to flow through.

Heart Valve Surgery

Our cardiac surgeons use open surgery or, when possible, minimally invasive procedures to repair or replace the heart valves. We have particular expertise in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and surgical or transcatheter mitral valve repair, collaborating with our interventional cardiologists.

If you have more than one damaged heart valve, we can repair them using double- or triple-valve surgery.

Maze Procedure

For patients with atrial fibrillation, this surgical procedure creates tiny scars in your heart that can help interrupt irregular signals so your heart can beat at a normal rhythm.

Aortic Repair

  • Ascending aorta repair: The ascending aorta is located where the aorta (your largest blood vessel) connects to the heart. We are skilled at repairing bulges (aneurysms) and tears (dissections) in this area, a complex procedure where you need an expert team.
  • Thoracic aortic endografting:  A thoracic aortic aneurysm is a bulge in a weakened wall of the aorta. To treat this condition, our vascular and heart surgeons send thin tubes (catheters) through a small incision in your groin. They then deliver a stent graft to the aorta, reinforce the aorta wall, and reroute blood away from the aneurysm.

Cardiothoracic Surgery Recovery Services

To support your healing process, Englewood Hospital offers high-quality, compassionate care in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). You also have access to cardiac recovery and rehabilitation services to help you return to your routine as quickly and safely as possible.

Peer Support Program

When you’re planning for heart surgery and recovering afterward, companionship and hearing others’ experiences can make all the difference. Our Visiting Hearts volunteer program connects you with patients who have had heart surgery for peer support and education.
